Optional special roles

The active ruleset keeps the original core roles and adds five optional advanced roles. The 9UP King is the original special role in this set; Hype Hound, Accomplice, Hindered Truth-Knower, and Dream Teller are four added roles that a host may enable independently.

Optional and off by default

A host chooses advanced roles in the lobby before starting. The 9UP King and Hype Hound require at least 3 and 5 players respectively; Accomplice requires 5, Hindered Truth-Knower requires 3, and Dream Teller requires 4.

Core roles are assigned first. Advanced assignments are then made only when the player count and card data meet the ruleset requirement, and one player never receives two advanced roles.

9UP King

The 9UP King is an optional Bluffer who privately receives one required challenge word. The word must be used socially during the discussion. If the Thinker selects the 9UP King, that player receives 2D, twice the card difficulty.

The word remains private until the normal reveal. A host needs at least 3 players to enable the role, and each played card receives a fresh word when a card is replaced.

Hype Hound

Hype Hound privately receives a leader to steer the Thinker toward. Selecting that leader awards the leader +1, plus another +1 when the leader is a core Bluffer; selecting Hype Hound uses the ordinary D value.

The role requires at least 5 players. The assigned Hype Hound learns the leader before discussion, while the rest of the room sees the result only after the guess.

Accomplice

Accomplice assigns two Bluffers the same false direction and each other’s nickname. Each partner can support the shared false path while trying to look like an ordinary player. If either partner is selected, that player receives D and the partner receives +1.

The role requires at least 5 players. The pair counts as one advanced role type for the lobby limit but involves two players in the round; their false direction and partner identity stay private until reveal.

Hindered Truth-Knower and Dream Teller

Hindered Truth-Knower is the current Truth-Knower with one reading obstacle, such as a mask, visual distortion, or a single five-second answer window. If selected, the Thinker receives D and the Truth-Knower receives 1.5D. The role requires at least 3 players.

Dream Teller is a Bluffer who receives a plausible but incorrect answer and explains it sincerely. If selected, Dream Teller receives 1.5D, and the reveal shows the true and dream answers together. The role requires at least 4 players.

Skip, reveal, and fairness

Skipping a card keeps the role holders and any task that is not tied to the card. A new challenge word, false direction, dream answer, reading obstacle, or unopened time window is dealt when that task depends on the replaced card.

Each task stays private through guessing. The reveal then shows the role, public result, and score breakdown after the round is settled.

Extra tasks with the same core guess

Advanced roles change what selected players must attempt, but they do not change the central question. Everyone still discusses one card, the Thinker still chooses a player, and the site still settles the reveal and score.
