Library and ruleset updates

This page records completed changes that affect what the public library contains or how a room plays. It is written as a compact history so a reader can distinguish current rules from older room snapshots and understand why the public sample set is separate.

July 2026: aligned editions

The three language collections were brought into the same concept order and expanded with full and short answer editions. The public guides were written around the question, answer, direction, and role vocabulary used by the room.

This alignment established the shared ordering used by the three language editions in later updates.

August 8: difficulty and turn rules

New rooms moved to the versioned difficulty-scaled ruleset. Difficulty values run from 1 to 3, and the first Thinker is random before later turns follow the opening join order.

The callout action became once per played card and its points are settled with the round result. Older room snapshots keep the rules under which they started.

August 12: public card samples

On August 12, a small public sample collection was introduced so visitors could read complete original cards. Those 24 concepts are marked for publication and are excluded from future hosted-room draws.

The sample page shows the question, full and short answer, directions, and difficulty for each selected concept. The remaining collection stays available for undisclosed rounds.

August 14: optional advanced roles

On August 14, the optional 9UP King joined the room settings with a private challenge word. Four more optional roles followed: Hype Hound, Accomplice, Hindered Truth-Knower, and Dream Teller.

All five advanced roles are disabled by default. Their private tasks remain scoped to the assigned player until the ordinary reveal, and the room continues to use the same core Thinker, Truth-Knower, and Bluffer flow.

August 30: card-shape audit

The library was audited against two admitted shapes: tagged opaque topics and tag-free open topics. The pass removed 210 concepts and kept 1,790, including 1,700 tagged topics and 90 open topics at that point.

The audit also repaired several answer editions and retained the aggregate direction balance. At that point the collection held 1,700 tagged topics and 90 open topics. It clarified that a recognisable subject can be playable when the question asks for a less familiar property rather than a common definition.

September 4: open-topic fronts

Open-topic fronts were read against their full and short answers. Bare subjects that did not tell players what kind of explanation to offer were reframed around their answer axis without revealing the answer itself.

The family remains aligned at 1,790 concepts in all three locales, now measured as 1,699 tagged topics and 91 open topics. This update changes question framing and a small number of short answers; it does not change the room draw protocol.

Reading an old room record

A room stores the ruleset snapshot selected when it was created. A new release can therefore add a rule while an older room continues under its frozen version until it finishes.

The public notes describe the active v0.9 room flow. A dated entry is kept whenever the library or ruleset changes in a way that affects how these notes should be read.

A history with concrete boundaries

The update record is intentionally short. It names completed changes that alter the public description or the active game shape, while leaving private operational records and unreleased experiments out of the player documentation.
